Ales for ALS #1
Officially called Weyerbacher IPA, our entry for participation in Ales for ALS is a 6.7% IPA. The grain bill is mostly Pale malt with a touch of CaraAroma and CaraHell. Weyerbacher has pledged to donate $1 from every pint sold.
Black Hole is a 7% ABV brew that satisfies the transition from dark ale to stout. It has the characteristics of a “big” porter with its strong, chocolaty malt backbone and light hop finish, topped off with a touch of molasses.
Blanche is a 4.6% ABV Belgian-style Wit, which is light, cloudy and smooth. In the nose, you’ll notice a light spiciness from the coriander and dried Curacao orange peels. Overall, a refreshing ale with a clean finish that follows with just a hint of tart spiciness. Technically, only the name was retired… This same beer is now available as Wit!
Harvest Ale is a 6.2% ABV “wet-hop” IPA made from Pale, Munich, Crystal and Wheat malts. It is hopped with a bounty of Cascade hops. The bitterness is restrained to allow the fresh hop aroma and flavor to shine through. You’ll find grassy notes with hints of citrus zest.
We take our Old Heathen and age it in oak bourbon barrels. The result is our silky smooth Heresy, 8% ABV. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa and roasted coffee. Notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla dance across your taste buds.
Hops Infusion is a 6.2% ABV IPA with complex hops flavors and aromas. Made with 7 hop varieties (Cascade, Pilgrim, Centennial, Liberty, Saaz, Fuggle and E. Kent Golding), this copper-orange IPA is loaded with juicy hop notes of pine, lemon zest and a layer of pink grapefruit, with a strong foundation of toasted caramel malts underneath it all.
House Ale is a 4.5% ABV session ale brewed with Pale, Caramunich and Carapils malt for flavor and body. It is then hopped exclusively with expensive Tettnang hops, a very delicate and delicious hops that perfectly fits this beer with just the right snap of flavor.
The Jester’s Tree
The Jester’s Tree is a 9.2% ABV Imperial IPA. This is a collaboration brew between Weyerbacher and our friends at Naparbier of Spain.
Manneken-Penn is a 7.5% ABV “Belgo-American Dubbel” and the official collaboration of Philly Beer Week 2013. The beer was conceived by Weyerbacher and Brasserie de la Senne, brewed in Belgium and debuted at Opening Tap of Philly Beer Week on May 31, 2013.
Muse Farmhouse Ale
Muse is a 6.2% ABV Farmhouse Ale made with Pale malt, a little Carapils, wheat and oats. The wheat and oats make the mouthfeel silky and light, while bringing some cloudiness to this unfiltered brew. The peppery-spice character develops during a fairly warm fermentation using the Forbidden Fruit yeast strain and not any actual spice addition to the beer. Hopped with Styrian Goldings and finished with Saaz, this beer has a noticeable hoppy dryness.
Old Heathen is a truly distinctive Imperial Stout weighing in at 8% ABV. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Old Heathen has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish.
Prophecy is Merry Monks aged in bourbon barrels. The result is a unique ale softened with hints of vanilla and oak, with an intriguing finish. This brew weighs in at 9.3% ABV.
Rapture is a 6.7% ABV American Wild Red Ale. This ale underwent 100% of its fermentation and 18 months of aging in pinot noir wine barrels on a collection of micro flora that created wonderful flavors of berry fruits, oak and a pronounced, yet quite pleasant, tartness.
Raspberry Imperial Stout
Raspberry Imperial Stout is a wonderfully full-flavored beer with just a “kiss” of raspberry flavor. This 8% ABV Imperial Stout won a Silver Medal at the 1997 World Beer Championships. It was chosen as the National Grand Champion at the US Beer Tasting Championships in 2003 and 2004.
Rhumpshaka is an 11% ABV rum barrel aged Golden Ale, which is unfiltered and has a profound boozy character. Huge coconut and passionfruit-like aromas fill your nose.
Scotch Ale is a 6.8% ABV brew that is exceptionally smooth and thoroughly robust. This brew is malty and roasty on the palate with distinctive caramel notes.
Slam Dunkel is a 7% ABV unfiltered Double Dunkelweizen. This brew is made with over 50% wheat malt along with Pale, Munich and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove.
Sour Black is a Black Ale aged in wine barrels, weighing in at ~5% ABV. It’s fruity and tart with just enough roasted character. A truly delightful dark ale.
Verboten, 5.9% ABV, is a Belgian-style Pale Ale with an American twist. This medium bodied beer has a crisp palate and moderate bitterness coupled with the fruity esters from our Abbey yeast strain.
Viridis Lupulus is a celebration of the renewal of spring! This “Spring Hop” brew will be released each year in spring/early summer. Each year’s brew will feature a different selection of hops.
